Warning drivers
is the point.
Traffic enforcement is justified on one basis: it changes how people drive. We agree with that goal completely. So we do the same thing a step earlier — we tell drivers to slow down before they reach an enforcement zone, with a billboard they can't miss.
SpeedTrap.fund documents locations where enforcement activity is unusually heavy relative to the size of the town or the road, using published reporting and public records. We crowdfund billboards, we publish our expenses, and we let drivers tell their own stories.
What we don't do.
We don't encourage speeding
Every message we publish says the same thing: slow down. We never help anyone evade enforcement.
We don't villainize officers
Police officers do a hard job. Our issue is with enforcement patterns, never with the people in the car.
We don't invent numbers
Statistics come from reporting, public records or agency data, and we cite the source on the page.
We don't claim authority
We are an independent project, not a government agency, police department or nonprofit charity.
